“Peace Begins with a Smile” – Mother Theresa
AUCOIN, Sgt. Michael “Milton” (Retd) – Aug. 20, 1936 – May 22, 2023
Called home to our Lord in his 86th year, Milton passed at his residence in Hamilton, ON
Dedicated husband of 33 years to his love, the late Carolyn Eyre. An exceptional Father to his only daughter Patricia Eyre of Hamilton. The “best” Papa to his Uggenti grandchildren Eyren (Madeleine) Alberta, Gabriel (Kaela) N. Scotia and Chelsea (Nick) Ontario. He shared with them his wisdom, common sense approach & boundless energy! Papa taught them many life lessons by his own kindness and compassion. Great Papa to Emelia, Elora & Azriel (AB) whom he was to meet in person this fall, Milton will now guide them in spirit. Best buddy to son-in-law Shawn Babineau they shared east coast pride, a love of hockey and dedication to family. Their bond grew more personal by caregiving, where Shawn went above & beyond
“Fenton” was born in New Waterford, NS. One of 13 children, he is survived by Josephine MacNeil and Louise Aucoin (NS) and Eileen (Paul) Gouthro (ON). “Uncle Milt” is remembered with smiles & laughter by numerous nieces and nephews (& greats). “Unc” attended scores of sports events, recitals, graduations, baptisms, weddings, etc. He believed in being present! A spiritual man, Milt was dedicated to his faith and active in his church community. Fondly remembered by Godchildren Glen Gouthro and Leah Santini. Happy-go-lucky, Milt made friends easily & everywhere! He never let you down; a friend for life. Our gratitude to family friend/2nd daughter Laurie McBride whose support & care was key in making Milt’s later years so positive.
Milton worked in a lumber camp, drove taxi & mined coal. At the tender age of 17 he asked his mother’s permission to join the military. On Sept. 5, 1956 a Canadian soldier was born. Milton’s 26 yr. career (RCASC) took him to Germany, the Congo, Egypt, Quebec & Ontario. Bitten by the travel bug and wanderlust he was well-travelled. A proud UN Peacekeeper; a soldier’s soldier. God, Country, Duty, Family – the code from which he never waivered. A year after military retirement, Milt found employment in the medical supply field. What was “something to do” became another 20 yr. career and a 2nd retirement.
Milt had a zest for life, the open road & adventure! The destination often unknown, the journey being his favorite part. Milt led cadet squadrons, enjoyed concerts & theatre, was an active Legion member (Dundas Br. 36), a member of Rosedale Seniors, loved the Ham. Bull Dogs & the Jays, a lifetime YMCA member, a driver instructor, errand-doer, problem solver & the best hugger on the planet! He led his life without regret & used the world as his teacher.
Heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Peter’s at Chedoke-Aspen Terrace especially Sarah, Blanka, Joanna & Cesaria for their expert care. Our appreciation to Veterans Affairs, the Alzheimer’s Society, Doctors Kehinde, Ayeni, Braga, Clase and Keen for your support. Cremation has taken place with a celebration of life to be held Fall 2023
Pop, you changed my world when you met Mom. You redefined our lives & my future. I have tried to repay you with all that I am & if I ever fell short you never let on. Any man can be a father, but it takes a special man to be a “Dad” ….and you will be forever mine. Your loving daughter, Patti xo
