Taylor, Beverley Joan
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joan Taylor, forever known as June Bug, shares that she began her journey to the spirit world. She was 65 years old.
Joan began her life in Curve Lake, spending time in Toronto, Norwood, and Peterborough. Joan loved her family immensely and made efforts to maintain her many great relationships. Due to her kind and thoughtful nature, along with her ability to connect with young people, she quickly became the favourite Auntie, something she prided herself in. This title was not undeserved as Joan was known for going the extra mile for her family to make sure they knew they were special, and was the cool Auntie her nieces and nephews could always rely on.
After graduating from Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School, Joan resided in Toronto for many years working in stocks/bonds as well as office administration. Joan enjoyed euchre, crib, and scrabble, scandal sheets, heading out on walks, and going on road trips with her siblings. When Joan returned to Curve Lake, she became involved in different ways to better the community and joined various committees and panels. She worked at the UOI satellite office before eventually joining the team at the Curve Lake School, where she retired her professional career.
In her later years, Joan welcomed her great-nephew Erik into her life, of whom she raised and cared for until she was no longer able to. Joan and Erik went on many day trips together, catching up with loved ones and exploring various parts of Peterborough County that many of us have not had the opportunity to appreciate. Joan will be remembered for her dedication and love she had for her family.
Joan leaves behind treasured memories with her sisters Faithe, Angela, and Natalie, her many nieces and nephews, and extended family and friends. Joan’s final journey will take her to be reunited with her parents John (Pot) and Pauline Taylor, siblings Pearl, Raymond, Paul, and Redman. Her memory will be carried on by all those who knew her and share their stories of this special person who will be dearly missed.
A special Chi-Miigwetch to the staff at PRHC for their kindness, care, and compassion while Joan was in the palliative care unit. The family greatly appreciates the efforts of Nurses Thomas and Jillian, and Dr. Nishikawa who worked hard to make Joan as comfortable as possible.
To respect Joan’s wishes, there will not be any formal funeral service. A sacred fire has been lit at The Bunkie, 4 Franklin Street Curve Lake, where it will remain lit until April 2. Cremation has taken place and an interment at Curve Lake First Nation Cemetery is at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Curve Lake School Library in honour of Joan’s memory.
