Melba Nancy Hyson, 76, of Hemford, Lunenburg County, passed
away January 11, 2023, at the QEII Health Science Centre.
Born in Weymouth, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late
Reginald and Sadie (Stone) Mullen. She is survived by her
husband of 54 years, Warren Hyson, son Steven Hyson, son Bruce
(Angela) Hyson, daughter Joann (Tony) Zinck; Grandchildren Emma Hyson
(Travis Collacutt), Amy Hyson, Kaylee Hyson (Jeremy Church), Jasper
Hyson and Whitman Hyson; Great Grandchildren Brody Collacutt and
Phoebe Hyson-Hillier; brothers Gifford (Fay) Mullen and Andy (Beth)
Mullen; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by both
parents and sister Phoebe Mullen.
Melba was a homemaker who cared deeply for her family. Her
children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were her greatest joy.
She became a grandmother in 1992 and a great-grandmother in
2022. “Grammie,” was always available for
conversation, support, and guidance. There was no greater supporter at
Christmas Concerts, Graduations, and sporting events, quietly
watching, and offering her support. Many sleepovers were held at
Grammie’s house where “home” rules
didn’t apply. Her grandchildren will cherish those memories.
She loved her grand dogs as well and spoiled them
immensely.
Thousands of wreaths were wound by her hands over many years,
and an equal amount of tea drank either in the car on the trip from
town, or by her cozy fire. Melba always enjoyed a get together with
family, especially her Christmas gatherings. She was a friend to many
and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
The family would like to Thank the Doctors and
Nurses at the Emergency Department of South Shore Regional Hospital,
as well as at The Critical Care Unit of the QEII, for their
exceptional care and support.
There will be no service by request. Arrangements are under
the care of R.A. Corkum Funeral Home, Wileville. Memorial donations
may be made to Hemford Cemetery or Charity of choice.
