Obituary
Passed peacefully away with her family by her side, at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, on Thursday, July 13, 2023, Mary Whelan (nee Kelly), of Riverhead, St. Mary’s Bay, aged 81 years.
Predeceased by her husband George, son George Jr. “Bud”, daughters Jackie and Shari, grandson John Bullen, parents Johannah & Oswald Kelly, brothers Rhody and Nick and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Jerry Comerford, Harold Kelly, John Whelan, Dick Whelan, Cecilia Bowen, Sister Josephine Whelan, Madonna Kelly and Linda Kelly.
Leaving to mourn her loss her son Bob; daughters: Anne (Billy) Squires, Teresa (John) Bullen, Marie, Geraldine, Cheryl and son in law Dave Bussey, daughter-in-law Bev (Wes); grandchildren: Stephen (Nancy), Justin, Kayla, Kyle (Diedre), Samantha. Michael (Cassandra), Ethan, Deana (Dylan) and great-grandchildren: Damian (Olivia), Cassidy, Katie, Rae, Maggie, Kiera and Mason, brothers Steven (Barb) Kelly and Gene (Jadranka) Kelly; sisters: Rachel. Catherine, Betty (Bert) Elliott, Stella, Clare (Willie). and sister-in-law Patsy Kelly; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Basil (Laura) Whelan, Des (Barb) Whelan, Nancy (Terry) Issacs, Richard Bowen, Uriel (Angus) Kielly, Ruth Whelan (Willie), Madeline Whelan (Harry) and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, especially her nephew Leroy Whelan, whom she thought the world of.
A special thank you to her home care workers: Trudy, Paula, Maxine, Joanne and Colleen. who went above and beyond for her and Marie every day. We have comfort in knowing how well she was cared for.
Resting at Gibbons’ Funeral Home, St. Mary’s, on Sunday, July 16, from 6:00 – 8:30pm and Monday, July 17, 1:00 – 8:30pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, July 18, at 11:00am, at Our Lady of the Assumption Church, St. Mary’s. Burial to follow at St. Joseph the Worker Cemetery, Riverhead.
