It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Mary Virginia Samson 82 of Louisdale, formerly of Little Anse, at St. Anne Center Nursing Home on December 15, 2022. Despite her many health challenges, she died peacefully with her loving family by her side.
She was born on the 20th of December, 1939 to the late Simon and Aline Landry.
She is survived by Rudolph, her husband of 65 years, her son Douglas and his wife Marcia (whom she considered her daughter she never had); her two granddaughters Carlee Mombourquette (Jamie) St. Peter’s, Taylor Samson (Adam) Halifax; her two great-grandchildren Daxon and Avery; her sisters Amelia Martell of Bedford and Leona Samson of Arichat; sisters-in-law Betty Boucher, Denice Samson, Liz Samson, Margaret Samson, and Isabelle Tandy; special niece Helen and nephews Ronnie and Wayne as well as many other nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her brother Rennie and sister Annette; mother and father-in-law Josephine and Freddie; brothers-in-law Joseph, Anthony, Stan, Pat, Tommy, Hughie Harold, Ralph, Henry, Oswald, William, Lawrence, George; sisters-in-law Lorraine, Alma, Dorothy, Bernadette, Edith, Mary Mae, Delima, and Gertie.
She married the love of her life at the young age of 17 and moved to Halifax where Rudolph worked on the waterfront. They later moved back home to Little Anse where she began working at Booth Fisheries in many different positions on the production line, retiring
as a quality control attendant after 40 years.
Virginia was a kind and gentle soul always putting others’ needs before her own. She was a hard-working woman who loved the outdoors – packing wood, shoveling snow, mowing, and raking the lawn more than she enjoyed spending time in the kitchen. She found joy in many different hobbies over the years. Making homemade bread for her grandchildren, homemade blankets with Leona, quilting, and knitting with the help of her friend Madame Bourgeois, shopping excursions with Amelia and Helen, spending time in Halifax with family, taking bus trips to Sainte Anne de Beaupre, and attending card plays and flea markets with Rudolph.
Doug was her pride and joy, her only son, whom she loved beyond measure. She was proud of her granddaughters Carlee and Taylor and all their great successes in life. She loved Taylor’s visits for a good game of cards and she enjoyed all the great meals/card games at Carlee’s. She so adored her great-grandchildren and enjoyed her time with them.
Visitation in C.H.Boudreau Funeral Home in Arichat on May 12th from 6-8pm. Funeral mass will be held in St. Joseph’s Church in Petit de Grat on May 13th at 11am with Rev. John DeCoste officiating. Burial to follow in Star of the Sea Cemetery in Petit de Grat.
We would like to thank the staff at St. Anne’s Centre, Drs. Laurie and Scott MacNeil, Kyla, Lesley, Sarah, and Dr. Cooper from the Palliative Care Team, the ladies from VON for the great care and compassion they’ve given to Mom.
Grief is the price we pay for the privilege of having loved. Our grief is deep because we loved her and in turn, we were loved.
Funeral service to be held in the spring.
