It is with deep sadness, that we the family announce the passing of Mary Catherine “Kay” Meston, age 85 on Thursday, April 20th, 2023 in the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, Kay was the daughter of the late Jack and Mary Catherine (Wilson) McGrath.
At one time she was employed at Victoria Haven Nursing Home, Glace Bay, a local restaurant and as a nanny in New Jersey. Kay loved life, she enjoyed going to bingo with her friend, Raylene Nannos as well as going bowling. She was described as a very outgoing and direct lady who had a gift for telling stories and a strong bond and love for her family.
Kay is survived by her husband, Alex Meston, daughter, Krista Rafferty, her pride and joy grandchildren, Gracie and Ava as well as many nieces and nephews and special niece, Michelle.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by four siblings, William “Chick” (Lorna), Woodrow “Doe” (Helen), Michael Sheldon “Shebbie” (Rita) McGrath and Melda Bennett (Tommy).
Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 25th, 2023 from 2-4, 7- 9 pm in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay.
A private funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel, cremation to follow. Interment in St. Anne’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
