Mary Bedard (nee Kelly) passed away on Friday, January 20, 2023 at Joseph Brant Hospital. Mary was born in Sudbury on May 03, 1940, and leaves behind husband Terry after 54 years of marriage, sons Shawn (Nancy Lam) of Toronto and David (Gwen Halfon) of Santiago Chile and 4 much loved grandchildren; Zachary, Aden, Madeleine and William. She is survived by brother Abe Kelly of St Catharines and sister-in-law Judi Kelly of Hamilton. Predeceased by sisters Edna Bailey, Helen Zahalan, Anne Beckir and Rosana Kelly and brothers Charles, Alec, Fraser, Wilfred, Ernie and Edward Kelly.
Mary graduated from Sudbury High School, McMaster University and Shaw Schools before embarking on a career as an Executive Secretary. She retired from paid work to raise her family and look after her husband.
Mary was socially active, having joined Beta Sigma Phi in the mid 1960 continuing that association until the present. She was a member of the Newcomers (Burlington) in the 1980’s and Probus clubs in the 2000’s. She played golf, curled, bridge, mahjong, and canasta with her many friends.
A big thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Palliative Care unit at Joseph Brant Hospital who took kind and compassionate care of Mary during her last few weeks.
Visitation at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of QEW), BURLINGTON (905-632-3333), on Thursday, February 9 from 3 – 5 p.m. and 7 – 9 p.m., where the Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Friday, February 10 at 10 a.m. A livestream of the service will be available at www.smithfh.com. Reception to follow. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Auxiliary to Joseph Brant Hospital or to a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
