Obituary
MARVIN GRAY McDERMOTT – (September 19, 1938 – March 27, 2023) was called home to his loving Saviour on March 27, 2023. Marvin’s relationship with the Lord Jesus began at an early age and grew steadily throughout his life. He was ordained to the ministry in the Anglican Church and served in churches in British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and rural New Brunswick. He moved into hospital chaplaincy for the final 13 years before he retired. Marvin had his degree in music as well as theology, and mastered farming, hunting, white water canoeing, woodworking, electrical wiring, ornithology and building. He was an avid reader and knowledgeable in many fields. Marvin’s love for the Cree people was long-standing and he was proud to be accepted in the Cree community of Waskaganish where he had many close friends.
He will always be remembered for his caring, love, and a great sense of humour.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Paige (née Wadsworth), his children, Liz, Catherine (DeLenardo), Sarah (née Tuyết Pham), George, Patrick, Andrew (Miranda) and Sam, his grandchildren, Rein, Kale, Timothy, Aidan, Michaela, Dylan, Christopher, Connor and Desiree and nephews, nieces and many cousins. Marvin was also blessed to have many good friends. A life well lived, well loved. The family would like to thank the on-site staff at Riverview Manor, Peterborough Retirement Residence, and the palliative care unit at the Peterborough Regional Health Center for their excellent care.
His Celebration of Life will be at the Elim City Church, 414 McKellar Street, in Peterborough, on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a reception at the church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Iris Ministries Canada (IMC). IMC is a major supporter of Ministry in Mozambique, including orphanages, primary education and medical care.
