It is with profound sadness, we announce the passing of a dear Mother, Nanny-Grandmother. Marion died peacefully at the Richmond County Villa in St. Peters on January 11, 2023. Marion was born in Barra Head Cape Breton NS on October 4, 1929. She was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Ann MacLean.
Marion is survived by her sister Marina. She was pre-deceased by her siblings Cyril, Bernie, Elmer, Freda, Jody, and Harry. Marion was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 30 years, Louis Joseph Pâté in 1986.
She will be forever missed by her son Philip (Janet); Grandchildren, Dean (Riki), Michael (Shealyn), Stephen (Claudia), Derek (Jessica);
11 great-grandchildren: Dawson, Keigan, Candice, Perry, River, Jackson, Leila, Jayden, Maia, Nolan, and Carter.
Marion was married to her wonderful husband George Maltby in 1992. She missed him dearly after his passing in 1998. Leaving behind a cherished stepfamily, Paul(Andrea); Lisa(Al). Pre-deceased by Delores, loving wife of Dennis. 7 grandchildren: Ashley, Meghan, Christopher, Daniel, Ryan, Sean and her little Leah.
Marion had a passion for teaching, writing, baking, Cape Breton music and even joined a Scottish Country dance group after retirement.
She loved children, her family, friends and her community of River Bourgeois; where she retired in 1987.
Marion wasn’t afraid to get involved with concerns of Canada, her own province and community by writing letters to many politicians. She volunteered with Palliative Care at the Richmond Strait Hospital and she was secretary to the Diabetic Association. She also joined the Church choir, became Church lector, and was an acting member of the CWL for many years. Marion was always happy to volunteer wherever needed.

Visitation will be held on Monday January 16, 2023, from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at River Bourgeois Visitation Parlour. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on January 17, 2023 at 11:00am from St. John The Baptist Church, River Bourgeois; Rev. John Yake officiating. Interment to follow in Barra Head Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Richmond Villa or to a charity of one’s choice.
