After a long and courageous battle with cancer, we are saddened to announce the passing of our wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Anna Marie Norcott (nee Harvey). Marie passed away at home surrounded by her family on March 12 , 2023. Predeceased by her parents Harry and Marion Harvey and sister Lena Dunn.
Left with fond and loving memories are her husband William (Bill) of 60 years; children Paul (Gail), Neil (Jacqueline), and Colleen (Calvin); grandchildren Emma (Bradley), Sarah, Thomas, Jordan, Spencer (Emily), Jessica and Natalie; nieces and nephews; and a large circle of friends.
As an individual, Marie was very thoughtful and compassionate and genuinely cared for people. She was their confidant; offered understanding, companionship, empathy and support; whether it was to bring someone a cooked meal; or was just there for them.
Marie dedicated many years of her life to helping others, especially those touched by cancer. She was a beacon of hope and a supportive voice for many families in Clarenville. She spent many days and nights in people’s homes and at the G.B. Cross Memorial Hospital comforting families. She was a member of the Relay for Life, a founding member of the Cancer Support Group and the Cancer Survivor’s Choir, a member of the organizing committee for the Curl for Cancer, a member of Cansurmount, and a support person with Cancer Connection. For her efforts and contribution to the Canadian Cancer Society, Marie received a Certificate of Merit in 2004 and the Reverend E.R. (Rex) Kearley Volunteer of the Year Award in 2007.
In addition to volunteering with the Canadian Cancer Society, Marie volunteered for over half a century throughout her community and Province in many different Organizations and Committees. For her outstanding contributions, Marie was honored provincially as a Senior of Distinction in June 2009 and one of Clarenville’s 150 Faces in 2017.
There have been times when Marie was referred to as Clarenville’s Mother Teresa. Marie Norcott was truly a remarkable woman and will be missed by all.
The Family would like to thank Dr. Paula Pye, Belinda Brown from Eastern Health, Home Care Support workers, all of the Doctors and Medical Team at Clarenville Cancer Clinic and Dr. Sohaib Al Asaaed and his Team from Bliss Murphy Cancer Clinic.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Care Foundation
Visitation: Tuesday, March 14th, 2023 – 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Wednesday, March 15th, 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Service on Thursday, March 16th, at 11:00am at the Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church, Clarenville, NL.
