Peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2023 with family by her side, Marie Golebioski of Transcona, MB passed away, a few days before her 85th birthday. She leaves to cherish in her memory, faithful husband of 65 years Carl, daughter Carol (Claude) Hebert, son Rod (Myra), daughter Pam (Marc) Henault and son Jason (Marni), grandchildren Ryan Hebert, Brittany, Jarrett and Branden Golebioski, Justis and Nolan Henault and great-grandchild Elise Hebert.
She is also survived by sisters Lena Klein, Alma (Bill) Leach, Audrey (Darnell) Keen and brothers Raymond (Bonnie) Mockford, Roland (Debbie) Mockford, brothers-in-law Garth Randall, Norman (Jean) Golembioski, Harold (Joan) Golebioski, sisters-in-law Geraldine Grycki and Louise Golebioski, as well as so many nieces, nephews and friends. She was pre-deceased by her parents Earl and Adele Mockford, in-laws Andrew and Lily Golebioski, sister Rita and husband Don Suddaby, brother Edwin Mockford, sister Marlene Randall, brothers-in-law Ken Tomms, Ronald Golebioski and Larry Grycki, nephew Thomas Suddaby and godchild June Peters.
Marie was born May 31, 1938 in Birtle, Manitoba, the eldest child of 9 children to Earl and Adele Mockford. She grew up in rural western Manitoba, on farms, around animals, especially loving the horses, the bulls Domino and Prince and was often with her dad Earl as he was completing his chores. Marie played ball, loved to skate and spend time with her large family, including many aunts and uncles and cousins. Music, dancing and singing were a big part of Marie’s entire life, including with her husband Carl, old-time dancing at family gatherings, weddings and later at senior’s community events. Everyone stopped to watch when Marie and Carl were dancing, so effortless and natural together.
Marie and Carl were married in October of 1957 in St. Lazare, MB. With Carl’s teaching career, they lived in many small communities in the Interlake, south-western and southern Manitoba before moving to Winnipeg in 1988, and specifically to Transcona in 1990. Together they raised 4 children during these years, Carol, Rod, Pam and Jason, and learned how to prepare meals together, take care of their family and spend much time together at home. Road trips through western Canada to visit family, attend weddings or reunions, as well as camping trips through Manitoba visiting the many parks and campgrounds created wonderful memories. Later in life, Carl and Marie travelled to Branson, Missouri on Fehr-Way Tours, having a great time. They travelled to Kitimat, British Columbia by air, to visit Marie’s sister, and with a tent in the trunk and a suitcase on the back seat, they visited the Black Hills in South Dakota. Marie and Carl visited The Forks regularly, enjoying numerous events, the buskers and of course, ice cream! They regularly attended senior’s dances, special lunches and dinners, also enjoying the many new friendships made. Together with Carl, Marie moved to Devonshire House in September 2022, where they met many wonderful people and quickly found new friends.
Marie was Mom. She cared for us; she believed in us and was there for us no matter what. She was always ready with a hug and a kiss, a listening ear and gentle guidance. She was Granny and Neenee, bursting with love for her grandchildren and great-grandchild, always showing great interest and pride in everything in their lives. She was a sister, an aunty, and a friend, an inspiration, showing her love in her very special way. She was a wife, a partner, sharing life with Dad through times of hard work, joy and sorrow, new experiences as well as familiar and comfortable day-to-day things.
We will hold you close within our hearts forever.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses, and care aides at Health Sciences Centre GD-3, RR-6 and GH-3 and most especially to those who supported us and cared for Marie in her final hours.
