Power, Marie Clotilda Rose – At the age of 106 years, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2023 in East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash.
Born in Arichat, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Minnie Gaudet.
Marie is survived by her daughters, Florence Bonin, Loretta Baker, Helen Zolkivski, Eileen Goyetch and Connie Lumsden (Stephen); son, Vernon Power (Barbara); brother, Alias Gaudet; grandchildren, Terry Bonin (Kathleen), Debbie Locke (Kevan), Stephen Bonin (Wendy), Mark Barker, Michael Zolkivski, Craig Zolkivski, Frances Mackinnon, Charles McNeil, Jack McNeil, Charlene McNeal, Coreen McNeil, Dawn Skeaff, Amber MacDonald (Blaine), Melissa Leblanc (Luc), Melanie Dalton (Richard), Jason Lumsden; and several great-grandchildren.
Marie was predeceased by her son, Donald Power; granddaughter, Shannon Zolkivski; and sons-in-law, Joseph Bonin and Barry Zolkivski.
Marie was well loved by all who knew her for her feisty spirit and kind heart. She was the strongest woman we knew and lived through many struggles in her early days. Marie lived through the Halifax Explosion and the two world wars. She had seen many changes throughout the years. She could spend all day admiring the birds and her flowers from her rocking chair. Marie was a wonderful cook and she loved to sew but she will be remembered most for her love of gardening. She worked in her garden until well into her 90’s. She loved company and a good card game. She will be missed dearly.
Marie’s family would like to thank with all our hearts the caregivers at East Cumberland Lodge. They are truly angels. They were her extended family and she loved them dearly.
A special thank you to Stephanie, “Jo” as mom liked to call her, for making her laugh and being her best bud. Also thank you to Dr.Rowe.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
A funeral will be held on Friday, March 3rd at 2 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Truro. Burial will take place in the spring at Watson’s Cemetery, Salmon River.
