Obituary
Mary Calico and Lena Aggus sadly announce the passing of their beloved mother, Maria Gilda De Oliveira (nee Silva) at Billings Court Manor, Burlington on Monday, May 22nd in her eighty eighth year. Gilda was born in Faial, Acores, where she met and married the love of her life, Vital. The family emigrated from Terceira, Acores to Canada in 1966 where Gilda had a successful career as head of accounting in a Toronto brokerage firm. After her retirement she and Vital spent their time between Canada and their second home in the Algarve, Portugal.
Gilda is predeceased by her husband Vital and her sister Teresinha (Francisco). In addition to her daughters, Gilda is survived by her sons in law, Joseph Calico and Gerald Aggus and, her sister, Rosa Maria Barcelos (Jose Manuel), her brothers Ermicio (Conceicao), Herminio (Esmeralda) and Jose (Adelaide). She also leaves to mourn her loss, six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care provided to Gilda by the staff of Billings Court Manor over the last 8 years.
Visitation will take place at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Thursday evening from 7 – 9 p.m. The Funeral Service will take place at GRACE ANGLICAN CHURCH, 157 Mill St. N., Waterdown (Parking off Main St.) on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 11 a.m. followed with interment in the churchyard cemetery.
