Mary Margaret “Maggie” (Babin) Dorey, 93 of West Arichat
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, meme, grand meme, and sister, Margaret, who passed away at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, on August 13, 2023, with family by her side. She was born October 5, 1929, in West Arichat to the late Alexander and Bertha (Theriault) Babin.
A homemaker to her 8 children, Margaret did a lot of sewing, and hemming, gave perms to many of the neighborhood ladies, and repaired bikes for the kids in her younger years. She was a soft-spoken lady but was firm when it was necessary. In her later years, she enjoyed bingo, coloring, needlepoint and quilting, picking blueberries, cooking, baking, and Sunday meals with her family.
Margaret lived with her daughter Nancy for over 26 years, and with her daughter Edna for the past 4 years. Margaret loved spending time with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She had 13 grandchildren and 13 great-children, and she loved them all dearly, but the little ones always stole her heart, and she spoiled them all with a little extra love and attention.
Margaret will be sadly missed by her daughters Edna LeJeune, West Arichat; Nancy Britten (Blair), Arichat; Colette, Arichat, and Colleen, West Arichat; son Ivan, West Arichat; sister Nancy Starkey, Arichat; daughter-in-law, Debbie, West Arichat; Grandchildren, Sharon, Suzanne, Shelly, Alicia, Lisa, Alfred, Stephanie, Jeffrey, Brittany, Cindy, Sabrina, Kevin, and Maggie; great-grandchildren, Alex, Will, Eric, Layla, Lily, Grady, John, Eva, Jack, Grant, Dawson, James, and Sophie.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Henry, her children, Clarence, Julia, and Tommy, her brothers Cyril and Eugene, sisters Antoinette, Jeanette, and Julia in infancy, as well as her son-in-law, John LeJeune.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A funeral mass to celebrate the life of Margaret will be held in Our Lady of Assumption Church in Arichat on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 11 am, with Rev. John DeCoste officiating. Burial to follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, West Arichat. Memorial donations can be made to St. Anne’s Centre in Arichat.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at St. Martha’s Palliative Care unit, Richmond County home support workers, and CH Boudreau Funeral Home for their professionalism, and dedicated service, also a special thank you to Father John DeCoste for his words of wisdom.
