Margaret Elizabeth Lee
May 16, 1940 – August 28, 2023

We are heartbroken to announce Margie’s sudden but peaceful passing on August 28, 2023 at age 83. Predeceased by her parents Phillip and Mary Heffernan, her brother Phillip, sister Rosemary Howlett and dear friends Rosalie Ridi and Peggy Leithner, she leaves to mourn her loving husband of almost 58 glorious years Boyd (Buddy) Lee and her children Lori Scotvold (Larry Lefaivre) and Dr. Boyd Lee (Dr. Angela Ridi). She was an amazing grandma and her grandchildren Josh, Jessie and Hanne Scotvold and Andrew and Katherine Lee were the shining lights in her life. She will be dearly missed by her sisters Jenny Shaw (George), Teresa Edney (Gerry), and Barb Daniels and her brothers Kevin Heffernan (Doreen), Pat Heffernan (Jean) and Doug Heffernan (Mary). She will also be sorely missed by her special sisters-in-law Annav O’Reilly, Louise Dinn and Dot Heffernan, loyal shopping companion and friend Lisa Lake, and very old and dear friends Jenny Pack and Lynn Smith. Margie leaves behind a large collection of friends in Newfoundland, Nova Scotia and Florida as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family across Canada.
Margie’s family was her world. She cherished memories of growing up in the Goulds with her parents and siblings. She was 18 when she met the love of her life Buddy and they have been inseparable ever since. They were married in 1965 and Margie worked as legal secretary to Fabian O’Dea, former Lieutenant Governor of Newfoundland until the birth of her daughter Lori. Margie dedicated her life to raising her children and to her family. She was protector, teacher, guide and inspiration to her children and was instrumental to their success and so proud of her family’s accomplishments. She adored her grandchildren and was so proud of them. Her face lit with delight whenever she was with them.
Travel was a very important part of Margie’s life. After honeymooning in Bermuda, she caught the travel bug and spent her life vacationing in Florida and later throughout North America, Hawaii and Europe. Margie and Buddy spent their winters in Florida after retirement and loved their busy social life in their community of Ranchero Village where she was adored by her many friends and acquaintances. She spent many weeks in Calgary over the years with Lori and family.
Margie loved flowers and was an avid gardener. Her garden in the Goulds was the envy of the town. She loved knitting and crocheting and leaves behind an impressive collection of her handiwork. Margie was generous, loving and caring and charmed everyone she met. All those who knew her will cherish the memory of her warm hugs along with her smile that lit up the room.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the nurses of St. Clare’s Emergency Department and 4 East for their exceptional care and to Esi Alimardani, her home care angel.
