Our mother, our friend, our grandmother (great) our mentor….so many roles, so many words of wisdom from a woman who cherished her family, her home and her faith.
To say goodbye is oh so difficult.
We are so sad to announce the death of Margaret Elizabeth “Betty” Hall, wife of the late Allan Michael “Sonny” Hall and daughter of the late Frances and Wilfred Arseneau which occurred on April 22nd at the age of 100 at The Grass Home, Riverview, NB, where she happily resided for the last 15 years. Prior to this, Mom lived in Bathurst, NB.
Dad would always joke that “he found his thrill on Tetagouche Hill.” Mom loved her family-her sisters and brothers, her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. In her early work years mom was a hairdresser, but many will remember her graciously serving customers in the men’s wear department at Kent’s Store. Mom’s hands were always busy: baking her famous bread, knitting, crocheting, needle-work, quilting and working in her flower gardens. All her children have fond memories of Mom feeding the neighborhood children as she welcomed them to our home and yard to play. Many hours were spent at the local curling club, a sport that both mom and dad loved.
Mom was a long-standing member of the CWL and Senior Choir at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Bathurst.
Mom leaves behind her brother Jim Arseneau (Anita) of Toronto, sisters-in-laws Alice Coles of Winnipeg and Mary Neelan (John) of Nigadoo. She was predeceased by sisters Regina, Angie, Leona, Evelyn, Rita, Christina and brothers Eric, Aurele, Rene, Leandre and Cletus. Predeceased by infant son, Allen.
And our family: Gary (Helen Shideler) of Quispamsis NB, Gail (Ronald Lukian) of Rawdon, PQ, Teri (Allen Boertien) of Fortune Bridge, PEI and Susan (George Williamson) of Riverview, NB. Grandchildren: Jared, Luke, Mark, Emma, Calvin, Ben, Jaedon, Mason and Carly. Great grandchildren: Alex, Liyla, Hanna, Sawyer, Charlotte, Jack, Catherine, Benjamin and Sonya.
Special thanks to the staff at The Grass Home for the loving care and attention to mom. Thank you to Dr. James Hudson and his staff.
There will be no visitations at the funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday May 2, 2023, at 2 p.m. from the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Bathurst, with a reception to follow in the church hall. Arrangements are in the care of Elhatton’s Funeral Home (www.elhatton.com), Bathurst.
Donations in memory of Elizabeth may be made to a local charity of your choice.

  1. My deepest sympathies to the family. I have fond memories of Betty when my family visited Bathurst. She allowed me to stay in her home, bless her soul. I was a handful as a little one.
