MALLETT, Robin “Rob”
March 3, 1944 — July 26, 2023
After a very long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease, Rob passed away peacefully in the early hours of July 26, 2023. His loving wife, Bev, was at his bedside at Mountainview Village in Kelowna, where Rob had been cared for with love and compassion since January 2021.
Rob was born in Alliance, Alberta and raised in Red Deer, AB. He attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton, receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Education and a Master’s Degree in Geography. He was a very popular and respected teacher for many years in Edmonton and St. Albert, until he and Bev retired in June 2000. They moved to Kelowna, BC in August 2003 and enjoyed many happy years here.
Rob is survived by his daughter, Cara; son-in-law, Monty; grandson, Aidan; and granddaughter, Paige. Rob will be remembered with fondness by his many family members. Many happy times were spent with his cousins from Alberta, several who had also retired to the Okanagan. His sense of humour was also appreciated by cousins from England and Scotland, who he and Bev visited and hosted several times in the Okanagan. Needless to say, more than a few winery tours were enjoyed! Rob also enjoyed many laughs and good times with Bev’s family members – sisters and brothers-in-law, cousins, and their spouses, nieces, nephews, and their families. His friends in Edmonton, St. Albert, and in Kelowna will not forget Rob’s repertoire of “unique” expressions and his ability to command an audience when telling his stories.
Rob was predeceased by his parents, Marjorie and Stan Mallett; his sister, Carol; and his nephew Michael.
Rob’s family is very appreciative of all staff at Mountainview Village Complex Care who came to know Rob over the time he resided there. They can all attest to his fanatical support of the Edmonton Oilers. He believed he could convert any person, from any place on earth, to an Oiler fan! We also appreciate his family doctor at Mountainview who cared for Rob with great wisdom and compassion.
In accordance with Rob’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service. An informal tribute is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Parkinson’s Society of BC, in his name.
