It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear son, brother and uncle, Mackenzie Brian Durrer of Mildmay, on Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Orillia Soldier’s Memorial Hospital, in his 27th year. Mackenzie is the beloved son of Brian and Sherry, and cherished brother to Nick (Brandy) of Mildmay, Virginia (Alex) Ehrlich of Newton, and Emily (Krys) Campbell of Mildmay. “Uncle Mack” to his nieces and nephews Evelyn, Cohen, Jace, Haddie, Gabby, Tucker, Louisa and Cade. He will be dearly missed by his grandparents Shirley and George Culbert of Mildmay and many aunts, uncles, and cousins of both the Durrer and Culbert Families. Mackenzie will be profoundly missed by his best friend and soulmate Shayla MacLennan, her parents Paul and Pam MacLennan of Walkerton and brother Tyson (Alysha) of Walkerton.
Mackenzie is predeceased by his grandparents Marie and Jerome Durrer, Uncle Ken Durrer, and Aunt Irene Durrer.
Mack was a family guy through and through. His nieces and nephews lit up whenever he entered the room. He had a special relationship with his siblings, often joking around and always having a good time together. He was an important part of the family farm, regularly coming out to help with chores, fixing whatever needed to be fixed or just having a simple visit with his Mom and Dad on the back deck or at the kitchen island. Mack was incredibly mechanically inclined and could design and build anything. He loved his job as a Project Manager at Advance Millwrights Inc. in Elmira and valued the relationships he had with his coworkers.
Mack gave the greatest hugs, squeezing so tight it was hard to breathe. He was always the life of the party and loved hanging out with his large network of friends, but mostly loved hanging out with the boys from Mildmay. He was an avid outdoorsman and many of his prized deer antlers hang in the family cabin – one of his very favourite places. Shayla was the most special part of Mack’s life; they had so many beautiful dreams together. Their relationship was full of laughter and love and was truly admirable. Mack was rarely seen without a smile on his face and had the best laugh. He seized as many opportunities as he could and lived his life to the absolute fullest.
Funeral arrangements have not been finalized at this time and will be updated when available.
As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Mildmay Agricultural Society or Mildmay Chamber of Commerce would be appreciated by the family. Donations and condolences may be made online at www.cameronfuneralhomes.com
