“Long live memories of you”
Silently and peacefully you lived. Silently and gently your humble spirit moved into Eternity with the Hand and Love of God. Luigi was born in Abruzzo – Catignano, Pescara, Italy to Liberata (Di Giovanni) and Emilio Amati. He was the seventh born of eight siblings. Following his service in the Italian Military as Corporal Major, he chose to immigrate to Canada. Luigi was a devoted and loving husband to Ada (Chiarini) for 53 years and a cherished father to Marco Paolo Amati, Diana Emiliana, and her husband Anthony Notarianni. Nonno Luigi’s gentleness and golden heart will be remembered by Alessia Chiara, Veronica Isabella, Giuliano Gabriele Amati, and, Vinson Luix, and Ava Gioli Notarianni. Luigi absolutely loved working for The Corporation of the City of Hamilton. Not only was he proud of how the City advanced commerce, prudence and industry, but it gave him the joy to have an outlet for his own gifts and talents. He was skilled in pollination, soil management, grafting, cement work, and in restoration. He was a crew leader managing a variety of skilled workers to maintain city parks and recreation with the reputation of being, “The Best in the West.” Luigi was fascinated by the fantasy world – Disney World. He loved theatre, drama, and dance – Polkas, Waltzes, and Ballet. He was a self-taught musician of drums (and other percussion instruments); and the harmonica. He loved classical music and lively folkloristic songs. He was always in a church choir and secular choirs (in Cape Breton, Toronto, at St. Anthony of Padova Church, and Il Coro della Federazione Abruzzese). He promoted the Italian culture that he loved dearly. For many years he served as an executive member of The Confederazione Abruzzese and was a founding member of L’Associazione Culturale di Penne e Paesi D’Intorni. With his immediate family, he founded La Festa di San Gabriele which has grown majestically under members of St. Anthony’s Parish and volunteers that attract devotees both near and far. Above all his loves, gifts and talents, Luigi prioritized the nurturing of his spiritual self. He participated in a number of prayer groups, pilgrimages, and parishes with devotion. Our family is most appreciative of the many prayers, love, and regard for Luigi. We ask Almighty God for blessings on those who truly contributed to extending Luigi’s presence on earth by nearly two years. Thanks go to those at the General Hospital, St. Peters, Juravinski, and McMaster Hospitals who helped Luigi in numerous ways. A special thank you to the medical staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital who worked with great devotion around Luigi. All are invited to the visitation for Luigi on Tuesday, January 10, 2023, from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Friscolanti Funeral Chapel, 43 Barton Street East. Vigil prayers will be at 7:30 p.m. Family and friends are invited to meet for the funeral Mass to be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, at the intersection of Barton and 165 Prospect Street, Hamilton (905-544-3327). Entombment will follow at Fairview Mausoleum, 4764 Portage Road, Niagara Falls, ON (905-374-1631). Reception to follow.
