Obituary for
Luc Martel
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of a great man. Luc Martel passed peacefully with his family by his side at the Timmins and District Hospital Thursday June 29 at the young age of 64.
Luc was born in Opasatika, ON. August 1, 1958 to his loving parents Eugene Martel and Gemma Carriere (Martel-Lacasse). Luc is now with his parents and brothers who have passed before him; Jacque Martel, Jean Martel and Paul Martel. Luc is survived by his siblings Jacqueline Pelletier (Roger), Pierre Martel (Diane) and Pierrette Martel (Michel).
On July 30, 1977 Luc married the love of his life Rose Martel (née Goulet). They had two wonderful children; Greg Martel and Suzan Green (nee Martel). Even if the time was short, Luc was able to enjoy watching his children grow into adults with families of their own. Greg and his wife Chantale Martel (née Lemire) share their wonderful family starting with Caleb Martel, Brody Fortin, Brennan Fortin, Carter Martel and Helena Martel. Suzan and husband Brandon Green share two beautiful children, Korey Martel and Madison-Rose Green.
In addition to his amazing kids and grandkids he was blessed with three beautiful great-grandchildren who always brightened his day; Brody and his wife Stephanie Fortin (nee Dacosta) who welcomed Leah and Colton Fortin, Korey and partner Sarah McRae who welcomed Rosie Martel.
Not only was Luc a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, he was also a special uncle. He loved sharing his knowledge and bad influence with his boys. Jean-Guy (Nicole), Kevin Martel (Vicky), Alain Pelletier, Jacques and Michel Potvin. They all looked forward to summers where they were able to spend some quality time exploring with their uncle. He loved being able to enjoy their adventures together. Luc was always the fun uncle who made his nieces smile. He loved hearing all about how they were doing and enjoyed being silly so they could laugh. Carole Simard (Fred) and Nicole Pelletier, Christine Martel, Caroline Martel and Melanie Martel. You girls meant the world to him and he loves you.
Oh Ya! Gosh he’s even a great uncle to some wonderful little-not so little ones. Jonathan and Justin Simard, Mathew and Alex and Payton Pelletier, Cash Martel, Miller and Joey Dick and Jayce Potvin, Tionna, Hailie, Evan, Sean, Ian, Shane Martel, Vanessa, and Isabelle Martel. These kids didn’t have much time with him, just enough to steal his heart.
Luc was a determined person who always found a way to get things done. He loved taking on projects that always seemed so unachievable. He and his wife Rose built homes from scratch, like I mean he would cut the trees down and debark them to build a log home. There was not much that could stop him and his wife. They both supported one another in such a way that it made anything possible.
Our Dad didn’t want anyone to cry over him, he wanted us to celebrate him. So that’s what we are doing. We are hosting a celebration of life at Greg’s property where we will lay his ashes to rest. On Saturday, July 15th we are inviting everyone that had the pleasure of meeting our Dad to join us.
Remembrance donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be gratefully appreciated. The funeral arrangements are entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, Cremation and Reception Centre, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins.
