Lucienne (Lucie), 96 years, passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 8th, 2023.
She will be greatly missed by her children, Denis (Terry), Diane (Robert), her grandchildren,
Françoise (Jeff), Michelle and Paul, great-grandchildren, Maëlle et André and numerous nieces
and nephews.
Lucie was born in St. Vital at home on October 12th, 1926, second youngest child of Joséphine
Riel and Maxime Carrière. Following her graduation from Glenlawn Collegiate, she married
Elzéar Vouriot and settled in St. Norbert where she worked alongside her husband in the post
office and retired from the Federal Civil Services in 1990. Lucie happily spent a long retirement
focused on spending time with her family.
Lucie was a fierce person, ahead of her time, politically and socially active as a member of
numerous organizations such as La Ligue des Femmes Catholiques, PSCA, Liberal Party of
Canada and several Métis Organizations. Lucie was proud of being Louis Riel’s great-niece and
worked tirelessly to exonerate him.
The family wishes to thank her Care Team at St. Boniface Hospital on E4 Family Medicine who
cared for Lucie during her final months.
A private interment will be held at a later date.
