Lorris Myhr, late of Birch Hills Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully with his family at his side on May 13 at the age of 102 years.
Left behind to mourn and to treasure his memory are Ruth, his wife of 68 years, and his children Debbie (Kevin) and Terry (Cara). There are also his beloved grandchildren and step-grandchildren Christy, Sam, Dana, Thea, Erin, Tracy, Justin, Krista, and Michelle, along with their children and families.
He was sadly pre-deceased by two sons Lennie and Greg, and by his older brother Peder Myhr, all of whom he so deeply missed.
Dad loved farming and continued to keep in touch by helping some friends farm and later going out to watch the field equipment at work well after he and Mom retired from actively farming. He was always interested in machinery, weather, crops, and rainfall, like all men who built a life working the land.
He loved kids and they were so drawn to his kindness! He was an honorary Grandpa to many of them through the years. He loved a good Norwegian joke, gospel music, a family gathering of any size, and a cup of coffee and a visit with his friends, of which there were MANY. Our home and later theirs in town was often filled with company, and there was so much laughter.
Mom and Dad moved from the farm to Birch Hills in 2007. Many happy and productive hours were spent ‘tinkering’ in the shop that came with their home. Dad said that having the shop made town life much easier to take! He could fix or build so many things and always had an ambitious project on the go.
He also loved heading over to the curling rink across the street to participate in senior curling or to watch a good game. He seldom missed a Monday down at the Senior Center for carpet bowling, which he did quite skilfully to the age of 98 or 99. He considered the bowlers very good friends.
Dad believed in community, and he believed in helping people, which he generously did all his life. He was a special man important in the lives of many and our family was so very lucky to have him. We’ll love and miss him always.
The family wishes to send special thanks for the kindness and superb care given by the staff at Birch View Nursing Home in Dad’s final days.
Memorial service will be in Birch Hills at a date TBD. Condolences can be sent to the family on our website at www.mackenziechapel.ca. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium. Brian & Bev Stobbs, Mark Gyoerick – Mel Curle. 306.763.8488.
