It is with great sadness that the family of Lola “Mae” (Hutchins) Akerley, wife of the late Gordon Akerley, announces her passing on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born in Head of Millstream, New Brunswick , on November 7, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Lola (nee Mason) and Milton Hutchins. Mae was an avid lover of Chinese Pugs (pug dogs) and a life-long fan of Elvis Presley. She had an extensive collection of plates, ornaments, calendars, and other memorabilia of both. She loved gardening (flowers and shrubs), and until recently, travelling. She often spoke fondly of Hawaii , Australia and Las Vegas .
Mae will be missed by her daughter, Melissa Akerley Meadows (Jarret Meadows) of Fredericton , New Brunswick ; her son Scott Akerley (Meganne) of Victoria , British Columbia ; sibling Vaughan Hutchins (Valerie); as well as several nieces and nephews; and her special friend Tom Buchanan.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her siblings, Robert “Bob”, Basil, and Jean Hutchins; her sisters-in-law Elva Hutchins, and Dora Hutchins.
Cremation has taken place as per Mae’s last wishes. A Committal Service will be held at the United Baptist Church Cemetery in Newtown , New Brunswick at a date to be determined. Arrangements have been entrusted to the York Funeral Home (506-458-9538)
For those who wish, remembrances to the Canadian Lung Association or a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.yorkfh.com
