WITMER, Lloyd Ross
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, and grandfather Ross Witmer at St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener, on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Ross was born 92 years ago in Waterloo Region, a son of the late Vernon and Vinetta (Shantz) Witmer.
Cherished and loving father of Robert Witmer and Barbara Witmer. Dearly loved grandfather of Brent Witmer (Chris Pinches) and Tyler Witmer and daughter-in-law, Barb Witmer. Ross will be missed by Glenna Hainer and her son, Tim Hainer. Remembered by his siblings; Margaret Hoover, Fred (Marion) Witmer, Dorothy (Doug) Phillips, Glenn Witmer, and by in-laws, Lois Witmer, as well as María Cabanes and Juan Espadas in Barcelona. Ross will be missed by his niece and nephew in Spain, Merce (Jordi) and Jaume (Elvira) as well as by his many nieces and nephews here.
Predeceased and now reunited with his wife Rosario (Espadas) Witmer who predeceased him 30 years ago, by brother, sister and brothers-in-law; Robert Witmer, Marjorie and Ralph Shantz, Merle Hoover and Jaime Cabanes.
Ross was a passionate world traveler, whether it was with his family through Europe and East Africa when we lived in Tanzania, or through the countless other countries on his motorcycle and in his van. Ross enjoyed working and tinkering at the cottage. He loved to create projects from items that he had lying around. Ross was the founder of Country Gardens Campground and RV Park and took great pride in building it up from an unused piece of his father’s farmland. He spent every summer vacation there when off from his teaching career. Once Ross retired, he enjoyed spending his winters in Bradenton, Florida, until covid prevented travel.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial service at the Mannheim Mennonite Church, 1494 Bleams Rd, Petersburg, on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery, where Ross will rest peacefully with his dear wife.
As expressions of sympathy, donations would be accepted to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario or Autism Awareness and can be done through the funeral home.
