Leo Richard Fagan
February 16,1937- April 26, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Leo Richard Fagan on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at the palliative care unit surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old. Left to mourn are his three beloved daughters who were the lights of his life: Jennifer Dolomount (George), Kristy Mills (Eddie), Heidi Price (Jason); 6 grandchildren Nicklas, Becki, Garrett (Olivia), Carter, Lucas and Sophia; siblings Sheila Rose, Alicia Kennedy, Patricia (Paul) Nordstrom, and Kay Browne. Also left to mourn are Kyle, Tristan and Andrew George who held a special place in “Pop’s” heart as well as nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends. Leo was predeceased by his parents Richard and Mary Fagan; brothers Gus and John Fagan and sisters Mary Crotty and Elizabeth MacIsaac.
“How ya getting on?” or “ Nice to see ya” could be heard anywhere Leo went. Infectious with his smile and outgoing personality, he was always striking up a conversation. Whether it be at Walmart, walking down West Street or around the track at the Civic Center, he simply enjoyed seeing and being in the company of others.
Leo had a lifelong passion for volunteering. He spent much of his life involved in the Sea Cadet program where he provided guidance and leadership for youth as a Lieutenant Commander with the Navy reserves. Selfless and always willing to help others, Leo spent his days donating his time and energy to a variety of causes which gave him much satisfaction.
The Catholic faith was a large part of Leo’s life especially in his later years. He has spent countless hours providing help for those in need with St. Vincent de Paul Society and The Knights of Columbus.
Leo’s girls were his “pride and joy.” He bragged about their success and their families every chance he got. “Poppy Leo” was young at heart and loved entertaining and treating his grandchildren to whatever their little heart’s desired. If they were happy, he was happy.
Leo was a dedicated veteran and Legionnaire who particularly loved drumming up donations in the Remembrance Day poppy drive. Remember him and his smiling face when you place that poppy on your lapel, next to your heart. That’s where he will be.
Special thank you to the staff at the Lohnes Center Complex, Dr. R. O’Driscoll, Dr. A. Howley, medical staff of the emergency department, Dr. K. Lafferty and the wonderful nursing staff at the palliative care unit for the exceptional care Leo received.
Memorial visitation will be held at Fillatre’s Funeral Home 4 St Mark’s Avenue in Corner Brook on Saturday, April 29, 2023 from 7-9pm, Sunday April 30, 2023 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 1, 2023 at 10:00 am at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer, Mt. Bernard Avenue with Fr. Maurice O’Quinn and Fr. Edward Terry officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Patricia Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy, flowers will be graciously accepted. Donations in Leo’s memory can be made to the St. Vincent de Paul society.

  1. Thank You Leo for being apart of my teens with the Sea Cadet band in the 1970’s. You had a great influence on me to join the Canadian Armed Forces and I had a great career. R.I.P. Leo you have earned much respect and you will be missed.
