Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Leonard “Pop” Henry on February 14, 2023, at Bobby’s Hospice with his loving family by his side. He was born in Saint John, NB on January 17, 1953, to the late Leonard Henry and Patricia (Richardson) Cleary and was a very loving and cherished husband of 50 years to his wife, Debbie (Howe) Henry.
Pop worked as an Electrician at the Saint John Dry Dock, as a member of the IBEW Local 2282, and later IBEW Local 502. He was a jack of all trades kind of guy, who could fix anything and solve any problem. He was also a very skilled baker; especially carrot cake, cheesecakes and pies.
Pop and Debbie have been living on Douglas Lake for the past 48 years. You would often find them sitting by the lake, feeding the ducks and canoeing. They did everything together and tried to live life to the fullest.
Pop was a devoted family man who showed his children and grandchildren much love, support, and encouragement. He was there for all of their sporting/social events over the years, and was quite proud to be their Papa.
He was a selfless man who gave everything of himself, without wanting anything in return. He was a real-life hero for both people and animals. He was an animal lover through and through, especially for his grand dogs Russell and Casey. While there is so much that can be said about this wonderful man, the sheer love and adoration that his children and grandchildren have for him and how much they are going to miss him, says it all.
In addition to his loving wife, Debbie, he is survived by daughters, Jill (Rene) Doucet and Joanne Henry (Matt Brown); his 4 adored grandchildren, Henry (Brooklyn), Abby, Emily and Drake; his brothers, Jimmy (Terry) and Art (Barb) as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and so many friends and neighbours.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Patsy Davidson, brother in-law Johnny, and his brothers, Lloyd, sister in-law Myrna, and Bobby Henry.
Pop’s family would like to take this time to extend a very sincere and heartfelt thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff of Horizon Health, the Nurses and Staff of Extra Mural and the entire staff of Bobby’s Hospice for the wonderful and professional care Pop and his family have received through every phase of his illness over the last three and a half years.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (646-2424) where visitation will be held on Monday from 2-5pm. A Celebration of his Life will take place on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, at 10am from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow in Fernhill Cemetery. For those who wish, donations in Pop’s memory can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Society or to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by his family.
