Obituary of Lawrence Edward Wasmuth
Lawrence Edward Wasmuth
(In his 90th Year)
Nov 7, 1933 – June 2, 2023
Obituary
Lawrence was born in Wilkie Saskatchewan and later raised in Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. He was the only child of Dorothy and Edward Wasmuth.
At a young age his parents gave him a horse to care for and keep his high energy busy. In his teens he and a friend would catch wild horses and train them. He participated in bronc riding in small rodeos and one year was an outrider for a chuckwagon in the Calgary Stampede. He loved horses, dogs, motorcycles, dancing and working.
Lawrence was a born salesman, and it became a very successful and a lifelong career. He worked for several oil companies across Canada and the USA. For two summers he worked as a purser on an oil tanker delivering fuel to the DEW Line sites in the Arctic.
He started selling Real Estate in Burnaby, BC. In 1970 and by 1975 had become an agent (Broker). He received many awards as the top salesman, time management and was known for his hard work and integrity.
Lauren moved to Prince George, BC. In 1990 where he met the love of his life Faye. They eloped on Lawrence’s touring bike to Winnemucca Nevada and spent 32 years together.
In retirement they sold their home, put everything else in storage and travelled full time with their truck and trailer for five years, wintering in Yuma, Arizona.
In 2000, they moved to Hanna where Lawrence once again was involved in volunteering. His great joy was teaming up with Bob and Donna Crowle and family to start and oversee the Christmas Motorcycle Toy Run. It was a great success for several years. He also participated in the start of the COPS program and the Men’s Prayer Breakfast.
It was a very difficult time for Lawrence when his health began to fail. He wasn’t used to sitting still. He learned to use the computer and watch more TV. He learned to record everything on the TV so he could skip the commercials!
Lawrence was always willing to help others whether in word or deed. He was dependable, straight shooting and a man of his word. He called it like he saw it.
His final words? “Thank you, Lord, for saving me.”
Lawrence was predeceased by his parents Edward and Dorothy Wasmuth, his son David, and the mother of his children Dorothy Wasmuth.
Lawrence is survived by the love of his life Faye, son Doug (Shelly), daughter Deb, adopted son Tim (Elaine), grandsons Michael, Tyler (Destinee) and a great granddaughter – expected in October. He is also survived by Faye’s children, Warren, Shelley, Keenan, Bruce and their families.
In lieu of flowers, donations of toys or dollars to the Hanna Fire Department (Toy Drive) are gratefully accepted to help the needs of children at Christmas.
A Celebration of Lawrences’ life will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023, 1:00 p.m. at the Hanna Seniors Circle.
