Laila Abou-Hamad
Today, the world mourns the loss of Laila Abou-Hamad, 74, of Fox Point. Laila was born on December 7th, 1949, in Minyara, Lebanon. She was a loving wife, mother and friend to many. She is survived by her husband, Said Abou-Hamad; daughter, Angela Abou-Hamad; brother, George (Maria) Toulany; sister, Mauria (Aziz) Saoud; close family, Emile (Samira) Thomeh; and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Laila is predeceased by her parents, Tanas & Kamlie Toulany & Brother Asad Toulany.
Laila came to Canada in 1976 where she quickly grew to love her community making Canada her new home. Like many newcomers, Laila started her Canadian journey in the heart of Halifax and later settled in Fox Point where she carried her family business.
Laila worked very hard her entire life; she had a love for people. For those who truly knew her, they knew that Laila was a woman that spoke her mind but at the same time she was known for her loving soul, contagious energy and enthusiastic personality. Laila was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who crossed her path.
She had impeccable taste and style and got attention for her loud infectious voice, which easily became her trademark. She was strong, resilient and generous. Laila’s family was most important to her. Her grandest, proudest and most notable accomplishment was becoming a mother.
She loved hard yet knew when to stand her ground. Let us remember the profound impact she had on her family and her community. Laila’s spirit and passion will always continue to live through every one of us.
The family would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to the staff at South Shore Regional Hospital, Dr. Solomon, Melanie and the entire palliative care team for all of their guidance through this tough time.
The family will receive visitors 4-7 pm Tuesday, September 12th in the Ronald A. Walker Funeral Home 13549 Peggys Cove Road, Upper Tantallon. Funeral service will be 11 am Wednesday, September 13th at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Hubbards.
In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Hubbard’s.
