Obituary
Kerry Joseph Loyie was born on January 23, 1958 in Penticton, B.C. to parents Roy and Agnes Loyie. As a child, Kerry set out to explore every part of his beloved Penticton that he could. This led to his avid love of Lepidopterology (the study of butterflies and moths). Over the years, he compiled a comprehensive and extensive collection which he then proudly donated to the Penticton Museum for public display. He also began taking accordion lessons, during his elementary years, which in turn, sparked his unending love and pursuit of music and playing for others. He learned to play guitar and was self-taught on the keyboards and also sang back-up vocals and ocassionally solos. During these years, he also became very proficient as a sound technician. He performed in many bands throughout western Canada and returned to Penticton to stay and continued playing locally until shortly before his passing. Kerry always had the concensus and respect of his fellow band mates and the musicians that played with him, as being a fun-loving, hard-working, and a devoted “musician extraordinare”. All who knew Kerry and were touched by his life, knew that he was kind, loving, sincere, forgiving, tolerant, non-judgmental, intelligent, witty, and full of life. He was greatly loved by all.
Kerry was pre-deceased by his father, Roy Martin Loyie, his mother, Agnes Ella Loyie, brother, Bud Loyie, sister, Bonnie Ridgeway-Wilson, and niece, Karen Robson. Kerry is survived by his brother, Zane Loyie, and great-nephews, Alex Bieber (Samantha) and Eric Shaak. Kerry will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by the love of his life, Patricia, and the numerous friends and family that were touched by Kerry’s life.
