Obituary For Kenneth Allen Scharfl
June 17, 1958 – December 29, 2022
It is with a heavy heart, we mournfully announce the unexpected passing of Ken Scharfl at his home on December 29, 2022.
Ken was born June 17, 1958, to Alfred and Edna Scharfl. He was raised in East Coulee and Drumheller. He enjoyed and spent many of his days playing in the hills with his friends and family. Ken moved throughout Alberta for a few years before settling down with Ruth in 2006. Ken was a very hard worker, and enjoyed travelling, camping, and visiting with family and friends. On July 4, 2015, Ken married Ruth at the best 5-day camp-out wedding- exactly how they wanted it.
Ken is survived by his wife Ruth Hopson, stepchildren, Roberta (Jeremy) Hopson Green, Daniel (Maria) Hopson, Mitchell (Alina) Hopson, and 4 grandchildren; Parker, Tristan and Nova Hopson-Green, and Bethany Hopson. Ken will be greatly missed by his siblings Ralph Scharfl, Rudy (Marie) Scharfl, Wilfred “Whip” Scharfl, Alfred “Alfie” (Margie) Scharfl, Vivian (Cliff) Deitz, Louise (Tom) Diprose, Lynda Heitrich, Carol Ross, Louis Scharfl, Keith Scharfl, and Denise Hawranik, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Ken is predeceased by his mother and father Elda (August 2014) and Alfred (July 1990), his sister Laraine Combs (November 2015), and his niece and nephew, Tereasa “Terri” Scharfl (April 2008) and Russell Scharfl (December 2011).
A Celebration of Ken’s life will be held at his nephew’s farm, where we have many times in the past held our family campouts. Located in Drayton Valley on July 1st @ 2 pm, and on July 4th spreading of Ken’s ashes will be held in East Coulee in the hills that he held so close to his heart.
Ken will be forever remembered by his quick wit and sense of humour. He always had a joke, or a story to share. He had a great love for animals, and especially dogs.
Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA in Ken’s name.
