Obituary for
Kathryn “Kathy” Spence (Dillon)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kathryn (Kathy) Agnes Spence at the age of 74, with her loving husband Alex by her side.
Kathy was born to the late Vincent and Margaret (Freker) Dillon in Chatham, Ontario, and spent her early years on the family farm. It is here she developed her deep faith, strong work ethic and ready sense of humour. She made numerous connections and lifelong friendships at Ursuline College “The Pines”, and eventually led to her calling as a teacher.
Her sense of adventure and her teaching career took her to Fort Albany where she met the love of her life, Alex. She took great joy in her teaching career of 39 years, in Fort Albany, Timmins and Moose Factory. Together, Kathy and Alex shared 52 years of wonderful adventures, travelling to Scotland, Wales, Italy and numerous other places.
Kathy had a great love of life and took great joy in simple pleasures. She loved all gatherings, whether it was with family or her many friends in her large social circle.
She had a quick sense of humour and her infectious laugh will be deeply missed.
Kathy will be greatly missed by her sisters and brother, Elizabeth (Larry) Buston, Margaret (late Danny) Meloche, Casey(Beth) Dillon, Marilyn (Bill) Knight, Theresa (Doug) Forde, and Colleen (Lonnie) Gillett, as well as her numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She will be lovingly remembered by her many brothers and sisters-in law, John Paul (late Rita) Spence, Greg (Paula) Spence, Gabriel Spence, Madeleine (late David) Rodrique , Helen Spence and many nieces, nephews and jabans. She is predeceased by brothers-in-law Michael Spence and Joseph Spence.
Many thanks to the dedicated staff at Timmins District Hospital and St. Mary’s for your compassionate care and personal attention to Kathy.
After their many shared travels and adventures together, Kathy has gone on ahead and is blazing the trail for Alex to follow.
Cremation has taken place and the family will receive friends and family on Friday, June 9, 2023 from 11am to 1pm at the Miron-Wilson Funeral Home. A prayer service will be held at 1pm with Father John officiating. Remembrance donations to the South Porcupine Food Bank would be greatly appreciated. The arrangements are entrusted with the MIRON-WILSON FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 150 Balsam St. S., Timmins, ON.
