Obituary of Katherine Elizabeth Smith
39 Halifax, passed away following a lengthy battle with cancer on February 1, 2023 at the VG Site, QEII, Halifax, NS. Born on May 26, 1983 in Halifax, she is the only daughter of Perry Smith and the late Pamela Smith (Filmore). Kathy had a beautiful soul and personality. She loved children, and spent many hours working with children through the Excel Program offered by the schoolboard. Kathy will lovingly be remembered and never forgotten by fiancé, Andrew Huizinga, her only son, Shawn Smith, and her father, Perry Smith (Elizabeth Hall). She will also be missed by her in-laws, George and Pat Huizinga, and their sons, Wayne and Richard (Vivian), along with many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her closest friends, Amy and Christine, and her fur babies, Zoey and Kitty. Kathy was predeceased by her beautiful mother, Pamela, her only brother, Joseph Perry Smith, her maternal grandparents, Kenneth Filmore and Muriel Baker, and paternal grandparents, Raymond and Shirley Smith, as well as a brother-in-law, Peter.
There will be no visitation. A service in honour of Kathy will be held on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at 11 AM from the funeral home chapel. Please send donations in memory of Kathy to the IWK Foundation.
