Obituary of Katherine Anne Nyuli
With heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mom Kathy Nyuli on January 27, 2023.
Kathy was predeceased by her husband Tom; parents Bob and Anne Cavanagh; brothers in law Jerry Nyuli and Butch Nyuli; sister in law Lorraine Nyuli and nephew Daniel Prentice.
She is survived by her children: Shannon (Scott) Whitlow, Jeremy (Andrea) Nyuli, and Heather (Justin) Meston; grandchildren: Maddy, Rachel, and Nathan Whitlow, Ella Nyuli, and Braidy, Chet, and Cooper Meston; siblings: Don (Sue) Cavanagh, Kevin (Sarah) Cavanagh, and Joan (Rob) Prentice; sisters in law: Shirley (Gordon) Harkness, Eileen Nyuli, Pat (Russ) McIntyre, Micky (Jim) Miller, and Glenyss Nyuli; brothers in law Walter Nyuli and Greg (Betty Anne) Nyuli; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kathy was born in Regina, SK but grew up in Dunnville, ON. After completing grade 13, she moved to Hamilton to train as an X-Ray technician. Shortly after completing her training, she made the decision to move ‘out west’, and ended up in Edmonton, AB working at the Misericordia Hospital. It was during this time that she met a handsome young city police officer named Tom Nyuli, and after a whirlwind engagement they were married on November 13, 1971. Over the next several years, Kathy and Tom would welcome three children, Shannon, Jeremy, and Heather. These years would also see the family moving many times from one small town to another before finally settling in Stettler in 1985. Kathy became employed as an X-Ray tech at the Stettler Hospital, where she remained until her retirement in 2010. Kathy was well respected by her colleagues and was a mentor to many. She truly loved her job.
Shortly before her retirement in 2010, Kathy’s husband Tom passed away, leaving her to navigate a much different retirement than she had envisioned. Kathy chose to fill her time with volunteering, going to aquacise, coffee with friends, golf, numerous trips with family, and of course her favourite thing – her grandchildren. Her grandkids loved going to visit her, and she was always eager to drive to spend time with them as well, usually arriving with several treats on hand.
Kathy’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Points West Living in Stettler for the loving care they provided for our mom the past year and a half.
Memorial Donations may be made directly to the Alzheimer Society of Alberta, 10430 61 Ave NW #306, Edmonton, AB T6H 2J3 or charity of choice.
