Karen’s Obituary
After a short but determined battle with cancer, Karen Lee (Millar) Henwood, wife of the late Kenneth Angus Henwood passed on the morning of Friday, March 24, 2023 at All Saints Hospital in Springhill, NS. Born on January 14, 1943, she was the daughter of the late William and Edith (Marshall) Millar. Karen worked for Stanfield’s in the early 1970’s and later in life assisted with homecare of her friends and neighbours. She enjoying volunteering doing door to door canvassing for the Canadian Cancer Society during the 1980’s. Karen was a well know member of and campaigner for the Nova Scotia Progressive Conservative Party and the Conservative Party of Canada. She spent many late hours in campaign offices and voting polls. She was a loving and protective mother who always supported her children. Her grandchildren and great-granddaughter were her pride and joy.
Karen is survived by her children, Kimberley Butler (John) of Tucson, AZ, Troy K. Henwood (Annie LePage) of Grand Barachois, NB and Bill Henwood (Tracy) of Fredericton, NB; grandchildren, China Butler of Orlando, FL, Lindsay Caffelle (Jake) of Spring Hill, TN, Marcel Steeves (Megan Till), Morgan Henwood and Alex Henwood, all of Fredericton, NB; great-granddaughter, Everleigh; brother, Bill Millar of Parrsboro, NS; several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, Karen was predeceased by her step-sister Muriel Miller; sisters-in-law, Donna Henwood, Beverley Hurley (Darrell) and Kathy Millar.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the loving care of MacDiarmid’s Funeral Home and Crematorium of Oxford, NS. A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints Parish Hall, Main Street, Springhill on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at 2 pm with Father Brian Spence officiating. A reception will follow the service. Interment will take place for Kenneth and Karen in Hillside Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to thank mom’s care-workers, VON nurses, palliative care staff at All Saints Hospital and all the doctors and nurses who have worked so hard in care of our mother these past few months. For those who wish, remembrance may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses or All Saints Springhill Hospital Auxiliary (Palliative Care).
