CHERNISH, Karen – Passed away surrounded by the love of her family, on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Princess Margaret Hospital, at 57 years of age. Beloved wife and best friend of Dan. Loving mother of Melissa and David (Brittany). Predeceased by her mother Audrey Dodridge, she leaves behind her father Ross (Marie), siblings Rick Dodridge (Barb) Gary Dodridge (Brenda) and Lori O’Brien (Paul). Beloved sister in law to Tanya James (Steve) and Howie Chernish (Annette). Cherished and loved ‘Auntie K’ to many nieces and nephews.
You could tell Karen was in the room by her contagious laugh and beautiful smile. She loved spending her summers soaking up the sun at the cottage with friends and family, and escaping the cold in the winter by watching her favorite tv shows in the comfort of her own home with those she loved dearly, including her fur baby Rascal. She had a deep love for all those around her and served the community through her career at Woman’s Place of South Niagara for over 20 years, where she also made beautiful friendships.
Karen’s family thanks the team at Princess Margaret for their care throughout her battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Dr. Moore, Dr. Tsang, Stephanie and Lynn all made a tremendous difference in the time we had with her and the quality of care she received since her diagnosis in July of 2021.
The family will receive their friends at the H. L. Cudney Funeral Home, 241 West Main Street, Welland on Friday, January 27th, 2022 from 2-4 and 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral service to celebrate Karen’s life will be held at Rice Rd. Community Church, Welland on Saturday at 10 a.m. Interment in Woodlawn Cemetery. If desired, memorial donations to Women’s Place or Princess Margaret Hospital would be appreciated by the family.
