McDERMID, June “Olive”, 92, of Stratford, passed away peacefully at Rotary Hospice Stratford-Perth on Saturday, January 14, 2023. She was born in North Easthope Township on May 15, 1930 a daughter of the late Aaron and Elizabeth (Patterson) Binkle.
Olive and her husband Duncan were very active members of the Tavistock Memorial Branch #518 Royal Canadian Legion and the Tavistock Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Olive was an avid gardener.
She married Duncan Foster McDermid at Stratford on May 8, 1954. He predeceased her on January 4, 1997.
Olive is survived by her son, Hugh Duncan McDermid (Brenda); her daughter, Katherine Elizabeth “Kathy” McConnell (Tymm Mansfield); four grandchildren, Andrew McDermid, Melena McDermid-Blakley (Cory), Wade Patton, Leanna Patton; three great grandchildren, Adelynn, Alexandria, Delilah McDermid-Blakley; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Binkle and Margaret Binkle.
She was predeceased by brothers, Earl Binkle and wife Grace, Glenn Binkle, Ernest Binkle; by sisters, Reta Pletsch and husband Laverne, Isabel Bushfield and husband William, Shirley Petznick and “McDermid” brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
Relatives and friends will be received in the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock Street North, Tavistock on Wednesday from 2 -4 and 7 – 9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Thursday January 19, 2023 at 11.00 a.m The Rev. Mary Boland will officiate. Springtime interment in St. Andrew’s Cemetery, North Easthope.
