KRONIS, Jules – Peacefully on January 11, 2023 at Sunnybrook Hospital. Beloved husband of Frances Kronis for 50 years. Loving father and father-in-law to Tamara Kronis and Martin Traub- Werner, Jennifer and Jeremy Simon, and Dr. Sarah Kronis and Yaacov Artom. Zaidy to Sam and Joel, Av and Maya, and Avishai, Judah and Nadav. Dear son-in-law of Rae Tobias and the late Albert Tobias z”l.
Jules was the only child of Sam and Anne Kronis, z”l. He will be fondly remembered by his sisters and brothers-in-law Marilyn and Stan Teitelbaum, and Lucy and Brian Somer and by his cousins who he always described as the sisters and brothers he never had.
Jules led an incredible life that constantly amazed and delighted him. Driven to conquer the economic insecurity of his childhood on College St., Jules sold programs at Maple Leaf Gardens for sixteen years until the day he was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1969. As a lawyer, Jules was a consummate problem-solver and community leader whose advice was sought by Canada’s most influential business and political leaders. He received many awards, and was particularly proud of being both a King’s Counsel and a Queen Scout. No matter how successful he became, however, Jules was continually in awe of the people he encountered and always just grateful to be in the room.
Giving back to the community was an integral part of Jules’s life. He was a tireless advocate for the Jewish community in Canada and beyond, and taught all of us how important it was to chase justice until it was achieved. Jules worked tirelessly for many, many causes and charities and knocked on countless doors in support of his friends and colleagues who ran for office. His collection of political buttons and other paraphernalia is rivalled only by the number of synagogue memberships he maintained and the number of (clean) jokes he had at the ready.
Jules was a model of resilience to the end. He outlived every prognosis and was lucid until his passing. He did not complain once during his time in palliative care and firmly believed he was in God’s hands. The family is grateful to the many doctors, nurses and other caregivers who cared for Jules prior to and during his time in palliative care at Sunnybrook.
Jules will be lovingly remembered by many colleagues, clients and a large extended family. As we mourn his passing, we have been comforted by the outpouring of love and support from all of you.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Adath Israel Synagogue, 37 Southbourne Ave with Interment to follow at Lambton Hills Cemetery (Junction Shul Section), 1305 Royal York Road, South of Eglinton.
