Obituary
Joyce passed away peacefully on January 6, 2023, just shy of her 95th birthday. She was born on January 9, 1928 in Coronation, Alberta.
Joyce completed her schooling at the Federal School and then high school in Coronation. She then attended the Faculty of Education in Edmonton (1946-47) while later completing an Elementary and Intermediate Certificate. She enjoyed teaching at Warburg, Calmar, Crestomere, and Ponoka Schools.
On August 23, 1951 she married Russell Petterson in a marriage that lasted 60 years. Russell and Joyce had three children: Terry Lynn in 1955, Gregory Brent in 1957, and Garth Russell in 1960.
Joyce and Russell travelled extensively throughout the world, while wintering many years in Arizona. In her earlier years, Joyce enjoyed horse riding, curling, bowling, square dancing and camping.
Joyce is remembered and loved by her children; Terry (Jim) of Okotoks and their family Sabrina (Rob), Candance, Heather (Colin), Tanis, and Melissa; Gregory (Shirley) and their family Lanna (Joe); and Garth (Joanne) and their family Kristofer, Denver (Kara), Dana (Brian), and Kjell. Joyce also has three great-grandchildren Sierra, Ellie and James. She is survived by one sister Loreene Coghlan, and one brother John Easton (Joan); as well as several nieces and nephews. Joyce was predeceased by her husband Russell, parents George and Georgette Easton, and three sisters Erma, Lola, and Ellen.
At Joyce’s request, no formal funeral will take place. Joyce would encourage donations to the Food Bank; the Ponoka Wheelchair Van Society; and Family & Community Support Services.
The family would like to thank workers at the Ponoka Hospital and Care Centre for their care and attention. A special thanks is offered to Dr. Dutoit for her kind help and support over the years.
