Obituary
Peacefully, after an extended stay at Joseph Brant Hospital, Marie MacDonald was welcomed home into the arms of our Lord and Savior, at the age of 89. As in life, she was surrounded in her final days enjoying the love and company of her children and grandchildren.
Although saddened by our loss, we take solace in knowing that she will be reunited in Heaven with her husband, Reg and her son, Shane.
Marie was born in East Point, P.E.I. to Fred and Mary “Mamie” Cheverie.
She is predeceased by her parents and siblings, Beatrice (Jim), John, George (Adele), Fran (Francis), Bernie (Anne), Rita (Ronnie), Joe (Anna), and Tena (Jimmy). She is survived by her sister- in- law, Rose Cheverie. She is also predeceased by her father and mother- in- law, Basil and Margaret MacDonald as well as her brother- in- laws, Gerald (Myra) and twins, Charlie and Donald.
Left to mourn her are her beloved family, her children, David (Sherry), Paul (Marisa), Marc (Edwina), Scott (Heidi), Janine (Pat) as well as her grandchildren, Jamie, Danielle, Holly, Shannon, Travis, Noah (Erenna), Aaron, Elijah, Jonah, Amber (Chris), Ben, Meghan, and Lauren.
Sharing in their sadness are her family and friends in P.E.I. and the community of Freelton.
Marie’s early career was spent teaching in one room schoolhouses in P.E.I. Once married, she put her teaching career on hold to raise her ever growing family. She shifted gears and, while leaving her 6 kids with her husband, worked weekends for years, as a waitress at “The Plainsman” restaurant.
When her children were old enough, she returned to teaching as an educator in adult learning. Her retirement years were spent with her beloved husband, surrounded by her family and friends, at their longtime home in Freelton, ON., and their summer home in East Lake, P.E. I. Marie was a woman of great faith and was heavily involved with her parish. She was a longtime member of the C.W.L., as well as an extraordinary minister and choir member at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Parish in Freelton.
She appreciated all those who visited, sent cards, called, dropped off food, and sent prayers over the years, both at her home as well as at the hospital and was thankful for the care and compassion she received from Kelly with the March of Dimes as well as the staff at Joseph Brant during these last few months.
Visitation will be held at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown, ON., on Thursday, July 6, 2023, between the hours of 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., with prayers after.
The Funeral Mass will be held on Friday July 7, 2023, at OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL CHURCH, 79 Freelton Rd., ON., at
11:00 a.m. with interment to follow.
Donations may be made in Marie’s memory to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Freelton, ON. or St. Columba Parish, East Point, P.E. I.
Heavenly Father, we are so grateful that you chose Marie to be our Mom and Grammie and, although a big hole has been left by her passing, we are comforted by the many wonderful memories created by her very presence in our lives. None of us could have asked for a better Mother, Mother-in-Law, “Grammie”, Caregiver, Faith Instiller, Wisdom Source, Comic Relief Provider, Confidant and Friend. Your memory will forever be ingrained in the hearts and minds of all that knew and loved you.
Till we meet again.
