Obituary
It is with great sadness the family announce the peaceful passing of Josephine (Josie) Penney nee Making at her home in Holyrood on August 1st. 2023. Predeceased by her parents; Patrick and Mary Ellen, husband John (1983), son Francis (2000), brothers: Richard, Paddy and Johnny, sister Elizabeth (Bess) and her special friend Joe Chafe.
Leaving to mourn are her daughters and sons: Carmel (Dennis), Betty (Dave), Vera (Jim), Johnny, Mattie (Darlene), Gerard (Norma), Billy (Laura) and Loretta (Philip) fifteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grand-children, many nieces, nephews, and a large circle of family and friends especially Marlene Penney and Barbara Dunphy for their dedication and care to mom, the Members and card buddies of The Star of the Sea Association and her friends of Tops. A special thank you to the care givers: Marie, Patricia, Paxton and Bridget who provided excellent care and compassion to our mom. The family wish to thank her family physician Doctor Paul, the Doctors and nurses of Eastern Health and the Palliative Care Team for making mom’s last journey comfortable for her. Thank you to Fr. Mike for his many visits, comforting prayers and the Sacrament of the sick.
Resting at Dunphy’s Funeral Home, Holyrood. Visitation will take place on Friday, August 4th, 2023 from 2:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Catholic Church Holyrood on Saturday, August 5th, 2023 at 10:30 am with interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, Holyrood.
In lieu of flowers donations in Josie’s memory may be made to the Restoration Fund at Holy Cross Church, Holyrood.
