C’est avec tristesse que la famille annonce le décès de Joseph Paul Marion le 15 janvier 2023 à l’âge de 95 ans.
Né le 8 décembre 1927 à Saint-Boniface, Manitoba, il est l’aîné de huit enfants nés à L. Paul Marion et Marie J. Tytgat. Ayant poursuivi des études en administration commerciale, il travaille quelques années pour la firme Picardy Limited en Alberta avant de revenir à Winnipeg, où il établit sa propre entreprise, Manor House Cafeterias. Il achète ensuite la firme R. Smith (1960) Limited, responsable de nourrir les ouvriers du Canadien Pacifique.
Petit-fils de Joseph Aldéric Marion qui l’a inspiré tout au long de sa vie, papa était un homme de foi, fier de ses racines canadiennes-françaises. Très engagé au sein de la communauté, en 1964 il est élu à la Commission scolaire de Saint-Boniface. En 1971 il se présente aux élections municipales, est élu conseiller du quartier Taché, ensuite maire adjoint de la nouvelle unicité de Winnipeg. En 1973, lors des élections provinciales, il est élu dans le comté de Saint-Boniface en tant que Libéral.
La famille se souviendra de son plaisir à jouer aux cartes et surtout au crib. Il aimait la musique, les voyages, les Canadiens de Montréal et les Jets de Winnipeg, mais surtout, il aimait être entouré de sa grande famille.
L’ont prédécédé, ses parents, son épouse de 56 ans, Pierrette Masserey (2006), sa deuxième épouse de 14 ans, Colette Moureaux (2021), son arrière-petite-fille Élise Marion Hall (2020), ses frères, Guy, Marc, Rosario, Raymond et Georges.
Il laisse dans le deuil ses enfants : Jacqueline, Jean-Marc (Hélène) Claude (Laurie), Louise (Douglas), Jacques (Janine) et Paul (Lisa); ses petits-enfants : Tristan Field-Jones; Sébastien Marion (Danielle Gamache et leurs filles Brielle et Belle), Nadia Marion (Thomas Hall et leur fille Camille); Danielle, Justin et Mélanie Marion; Luc, Robert et Marc Grant; sa sœur Marie-Jeanne, son frère Roland (Darlene), ses beaux-frères et belles-sœurs, neveux, nièces et amis au Canada et en France.
La famille désire remercier le personnel d’Actionmarguerite (Foyer Valade) pour les soins prodigués à papa. La messe des funérailles aura lieu le lundi, 23 janvier 2023 à 11 h à la Cathédrale de Saint-Boniface.

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of Joseph Paul Marion, January 15, 2023, at the age of 95.
The eldest of eight children he was born to L. Paul Marion and Marie J. Tytgat December 8, 1927, in Saint-Boniface, Manitoba. Following studies in business administration he worked for Picardy Limited of Winnipeg as an accountant and manager for several years in Alberta, before returning to Winnipeg where he established Manor House Cafeterias, later purchasing R. Smith (1960) Ltd, catering to rail workers of the Canadian Pacific.
Our father was a man of faith, proud of his French-Canadian roots, and inspired by his grandfather Joseph Aldéric Marion’s life of service to the community. In 1964, he was elected to the Saint-Boniface School Board. In 1971 he agreed to run in the municipal elections he agreed, was elected councillor for the Taché ward, and the following year was elected deputy mayor for Winnipeg’s newly created unicity. In 1973, he ran and was elected as a Liberal in the provincial elections for Saint-Boniface. He was also President of the Winnipeg Executives’ Association and the Carleton Club.
We will always remember his joy in playing cards and Crib. He loved music and travel, the Montreal Canadians and the Winnipeg Jets, but mostly, le loved spending time with family.
He was predeceased by his wife Pierrette Masserey, his second wife Colette Moureaux, his great granddaughter Élise Marion Hall, his brothers Guy, Marc, Rosario, Raymond, and Georges.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family thanks the staff of Actionmarguerite-(Foyer Valade) for their care and compassion in the last two years.
Funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, January 23, 2023, at 11:00 am. at St. Boniface Cathedral.
