Obituary
GARRON, Joseph Austin – 69, of Sandy Point, passed away early Thursday morning, April 27, 2023, at Yarmouth Regional Hospital with his wife by his side. Born in Doctor’s Cove, he was the son of the late Nancy Leona (Kennedy) and Hartley Austin Garron. In his younger years, Joe was a fisherman and Irish mosser. He also helped build and run the Derrydown Campground years ago in Forbes Point. Joe was also a former member of the Lions Club, Shelburne Branch, and a friend of Bill W. Joe was very proud of his family; he loved spending time with the children and grandchildren. He was especially happy when they all came for holiday dinners and hated to see them go. Joe made a lot of friends over the years and although he didn’t see them as much lately he still thought of them often. Joes used to like to go for drives to the wharfs, especially when the lobster season was getting ready to open and the traps were all piled high. The last few years with his health deteriorating, Joe got his independence back when he finally got his mobility scooter. It brought him joy to be able to ride around the town of Shelburne without having to wait for the ‘Old Woman’ to take him. Joe is survived by his wife of 32 years, Evelyn Claire (Atkinson); daughters, Suzanne Penney (Levi), Sabrina Penney; son, Benjamin (Olivia) Penney; grandsons, Brady Townsend Jr. (Nicole), Seth Penney (Nadia), Austin Christink; great-grandsons, Felix Williams, Eli Townsend; sisters, Lillian (Frank) Nickerson, Marjorie (Irwin) Newell, Deloris Quinlan; brothers, Hartley Jr. (Beverley), and Jerry; also many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers-in-law, David Quinlan, Kenneth Atwood; mother-in-law, Evelyn Groves; and her partner, Ivan Fisher. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Barrington. There will be no visitation or service as per request. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the COPD Foundation, Mount Pleasant Cemetery, or a charity of your choice.
