MCALOON, JOHN REID
John Reid McAloon / Sept 18, 1927 – Mar 13, 2023, Fredericton , NB , peacefully after a brief illness. Born in Stanley , NB , to John Reid McAloon and Nora (Hawkes); John took to sports early, and was fortunate to have the opportunity to attend St. Thomas High School and University in Chatham , NB , where he excelled in many pursuits, with his favourite being Hockey. After St. Thomas the Game took him to Bathurst , NB to play for the Papermakers, where he found success both on and off the ice, in a community that he fell in love with, eventually settling there to raise his family on Stout Court .
While in Bathurst , John became a successful entrepreneur, with the establishment of Bathurst Tire, Industrial Rubber & Canmar Industrial Supplies. In 1986, at the young age of 59, John retired, moving to Fredericton with his wife Judy, to be closer to extended family.
An amateur Genealogist, John took great pride in tracing his descendants to Maguiresbridge , Ireland , documenting their arrival in Saint John , NB in 1834 aboard the Leslie Gault, before settling in the planned village of Stanley , NB. Proud of his Irish roots, John never missed the opportunity to travel to Ireland , or Miramichi City ( Chatham ) for the annual Irish Festival. John remained very active in his retirement years, and enjoyed golf, woodworking, salmon fishing at the Miramichi Salmon Club, travel and spending time with family and friends. John had tremendous faith, lived a full life, and was content with his final chapter. At 95, John has always been a constant presence in the lives of his family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
Predeceased by his parents, his siblings, Arthur, Henry and Carolyn (Leetch); his first wife, Velma (Donahue), and youngest daughter, Kelly. John is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret (Judy Carr), as well as his children, John Donahue (Mora) Malignant Cove, NS, Laurie Froese (Richard) Kelowna, BC, Michael (Margie) Amherst, NS, Carol Bateman (Murray) Wasaga Beach, ON and Margot McAloon-Parker (Robb) Fredericton, NB; as well as his grandchildren, Ashley, Steve, Patrick, Andrew, Catherine, Thomas, Colleen, Sam, Corben, Liam and Hunter; his great-grandchildren, Jack, Reid, Alice, Owen, Iris and Violet.
