Corner Brook, NL
The family of the late John Matthew Hearn would like to express a sincere thank you to those who offered support and helped ease our sorrow at this very difficult time. We appreciate all the expressions of sympathy, phone calls, text messages, food, cards, visits, prayers, and donations made to the Western Memorial Regional Foundation’s Palliative Care Unit.
A very special thank you to the many wonderful people who assisted in his care; Dr. Amanda Park and the nurses and staff on the chemo ward, Dr. Nancy Barker, Dr. Kate Lafferty and the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit.
Special thanks to Father Terry for your hospital visits and for presiding over his funeral liturgy.
To the Sacred Heart Folk Choir, your singing and guitar playing was amazing and just how he would have wanted it.
To the staff of Fillatre’s Funeral Home, thank you for your attention to detail, professionalism, and personal touches.
May God bless each of you.

——————————————————————————————————————–
It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late John Matthew Hearn announce his passing on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at the Western Long Term Care Palliative Care Unit at the age of 73 years. At the time of his passing, John / Dad / Poppy was surrounded by his loving family – wife, sons, daughters in-law, seven grand children and all his brothers and sisters.
He leaves to mourn with ever lasting and loving memories his wife of 50 years Janet (nee Payne); sons: Shawn (Anna Marie), Chicago and Christopher (Katherine), Corner Brook; grandchildren: Shawn Jr., Alex, Matthew, Jack, Madelyn, Haley and Kate; sisters and brothers: Eileen (Tom) Moore, Gerard (Dawn), Margaret (Richard) French, Robert (Dianne) and Michelle (Sean) Brake; brothers and sisters-in-law: Lloyd (Gloria) Payne, Helen (Walter) Caines, Keith (Leone) Payne and Dorothy Payne; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. John worked at Corner Brook Pulp and Paper (CBPP) and held various positions in the CBPP Union, Press Club and Westmount Club where he made some life long friendships. He so enjoyed time at his cabin at Copper Mine Brook with his “Beach Buddies” – sitting around the fire with a drink of Crown Royal. An exceptional cook who liked to share his recipes with family and friends but most importantly John will be remembered for the love and willingness he had to do anything for his family.
A very special thank you to Dr. Amanda Park and the nurses and staff of the Chemo Ward, Dr. Nancy Barker, Dr. Kate Lafferty and the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit for their care.
Cremation has taken place and a funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. from Fillatre’s Funeral Home Chapel, St. Mark’s Avenue with Father Edward Terry officiating.
