John Wayne LaForme, peacefully crossed over into the spirit world, after a short battle with cancer. John was welcomed with open arms into heaven by his mother Hazel LaForme, father Richard Wythe and sisters Janice and Bernadette “Sally”.
Left to mourn this heart wrenching loss is his partner Ruth Brown, stepson Jakob, father-in-law John Brown, his brother Dean (Norma), nephews Wade and Steven, great niece Vanessa, his niece Angela (Chris), great nieces Ava and Mya and his special auntie Audrey who raised him after his mom passed away in 1975. Special friend to Dale Sault and children Tim, Alicia and Sierra with whom he played a significant role in raising. He leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
John was born and raised on the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation where he exceled academically. After graduating from Hagersville Secondary School, he ventured by Greyhound (where he met his lifelong friend Carl) all the way to Vancouver to find the true meaning of life. He got his second chance at life in 1999 when he chose to follow a spiritual path to a life of recovery. Through the 12-step program, he was able to work through his hurts and pains and live life not just as a “survivor” but as a “thriver.”
From there he helped the homeless and anyone who desired to have a life free of drugs and alcohol. He was an amazing cook and in his own words would always say, “Never trust a skinny chef.” He went on to college and finally settled on becoming an electrician. In between that time, he learned to appreciate the game of golf and also enjoyed deep sea fishing. John was an active member of the IBEW 424 union in Fort McMurray, Alberta where he worked hard up until December 2022. His hard hat has been retired and will now hang in Yard 8. John will lovingly be remembered by many for his humour and quick witted “one liners.”
Cremation has taken place. As per John’s wishes, his ashes will be spread at the very place where he finally started “living,” the Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver.
Life Without You
Well hello Baby, tell me how have you been?
We all have missed you, and the way you grin.
The day is necessary, every now and then,
For souls to move on, given life back again.
Fly on, fly on, fly on my friend,
Go on, live again, love again.
