ROES, David “John”
Passed away peacefully with family at his side on Monday, August 28, 2023, at his residence in Milverton, Ontario. John was born 87 years ago in Mornington Township, a son of the late Samuel and Mary (Gascho) Roes.
Devoted and loving husband of Emmaline (Lichty) Roes whom he cherished 65 years of marriage with. Cherished father of Pamela (William Schultz), Kathy Roes (Tim Tomiuk), Judy (Philip Westman) and Jason Roes (Angie). Proud grandfather of Rachel (Ethan), Daniel (Tricia), Dylan (Steve), Jesse (Abbie), Taylor (Taylor), Harley (Cameron), Ashley (Bailey) and Sammi (Megan) and great-grandfather of Milo and Ryker. John will be missed by his brothers, Ivan Roes (Reta) and Norman Roes (Sharon), brother-in-law Clarence Poole, sisters-in-law Helen Ariss, Lorna Lichty and Shirley Lichty and by many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by sisters Ethel Poole, Erma Albrecht (Bill) and Eleanor Roes.
John was a proud and hard-working farmer who was honest, humble and always saw the positive in everyone and everything. Farming beside his 2 brothers on the Poole Road, the 3 of them would work together sharing equipment. After retirement John returned to his first passion woodworking, finishing custom woodwork projects with Daniel Bisch. He was also able to enjoy travelling with his family and friends. Growing up John enjoyed sports playing hockey and ball. In his later years he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and cheered them on at all their sports events and other activities. John played the harmonica and enjoyed harmonizing with his beautiful tenor voice during church hymnal singing.
Relatives and friends are invited to the Mark Jutzi Funeral Home, 7 Spencer Street, Milverton, on Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 p.m. The funeral service will take place on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Poole Mennonite Church at 11:00 a.m. A private family interment to take place following the service.
As expressions of sympathy, donations would be accepted to Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society and can be done through the funeral home.
