John (Hans) Bernhard Rauscher
July 2, 1943 – September 6, 2023
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John (Hans) Rauscher at the Brockville General Hospital on September 6, 2023, at the age of 80.
John was born on July 2, 1943, in Stollhofen, Austria and emigrated to Canada in 1958 at the age of 15.
John was a master of his trade, an accomplished mason who for several decades played a vital role in the construction industry in and around the Brockville area. With a passion for the open road, he obtained his class A drivers license and dedicated the remainder of his career to long haul truck driving.
In his earlier years John found immense joy in building and racing stock cars at the Brockville Speedway. When he retired from racing himself, he cherished watching his son-in-law Craig and grandson Logan as they raced in the super modified division in Oswego, New York. His enthusiasm for these races brought the family even closer together.
Beyond his professional and racing pursuits, he enjoyed the tranquility of fishing on the Saint Lawrence River with his family. It was these moments of togetherness that brought peace and happiness to his life.
John is now reunited with his beloved wife, Elizabeth Doreen Rauscher (nee Garand) in eternal rest. He is predeceased by his parents John and Friederike, his brother Kurt, sister in law Barbara and granddaughter Jackie. He will be fondly remembered by his brother Fred (Britta), daughters Joanne, Doreen (Mark), Theresa (Craig), Carla, son John, and grandchildren Morgan, Lucas, Logan, Ryan, Jordan, Ashley, Jake, Tracy and Amy. John will be greatly missed by many nieces and nephews, great grandchildren and cherished friends. John will also be greatly missed by his partner Gale Sprigings.
As per John’s wishes, no visitation or funeral services will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Irvine Funeral Home and Chapel, 4 James St. E., Brockville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Brockville General Hospital Palliative Care Program or the Canadian Cancer Society.
Please join us in honouring the life of John Rauscher, a remarkable man who touched the lives of many. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will reside in our hearts forever.
