Obituary
Botta, John Norman – Born in Vancouver 1943, passed away in Georgetown on Friday, May 19, 2023. John’s journey took him from the float homes of his childhood to the logging camps of his youth in Echo Bay, leaving an indelible mark on the lives he touched along the way.
John’s cooking was celebrated, whether in his kitchen cooking up his special spaghetti or on the deck sharing stories over sticky fingers caused by his fall off the bone ribs. He found great joy in creating meals for his family and always seemed to have more than enough ‘left overs’ for the turkeys. If it was a cozy gathering or a boisterous feast, John’s meals brought people together.
John completed his schooling in Vancouver and was immediately hired by TriCanada Pumps, then went on the open his own company; Process Pumps. Throughout his life, John’s love for long drives took him all over North America as long as there wasn’t a bridge involved. From the first years with his family in Oakville to Vermont and Buffalo, and happily settling in on his secluded farm property in Georgetown, Ontario. In retirement, John found joy entertaining his grandchildren with his beloved goats, cats, turkeys, chickens and donkey.
Pre-deceased by his brothers Peter, Ricky, wife Anne and grandson Jack; survived by sister Kathryn, his children, Derek, Colin and Vikki, remembered as a loving grandfather to Tahlia, Jessica, Gregory and Isabella, and great grandfather to Leo Reef. John will never be forgotten by Paddy, PV2 and all the other critters that crossed his path.
We remember his contagious laugh and celebrate a man who took pride in one more serving, a good deal on juice and all animals except racoons.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to The Donkey Sanctuary in Guelph. Private family ceremony will be held in John’s beloved bays of Vancouver Island.
