John Kozun

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of John Kozun on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at the Betel Home in Selkirk at the age of 96 years.
He leaves to mourn his wife Stella of 69 years, his three children, Brian Kozun (Jeannette), Gary Kozun (Donna) and Sandra Ross (Tom). He also leaves his four grandchildren Jon, Kyle, Alexandra (Will), David (Summer) and his great-grandchild Hayden; sister-in-law Fran; nieces Gail Kozun and Karen Willms. John was predeceased by his brother William and niece Debbie.
John was born in Dizkiw Starry, Poland coming to Canada at the age of 2. In his youth, John enjoyed playing and refereeing hockey and hunting with family and friends. In 1945 he enlisted in the Canadian Armed Forces, resigning at the end of WWII.
In 1954 he married the love of his life Stella. They enjoyed family, camping, fishing, golf, curling and cross country skiing. They also enjoyed travelling to the Caribbean, South America and Europe. In 1976 John and Stella built a house on Netley Creek in Petersfield before returning to Selkirk in 2006.
John was employed at the Manitoba Rolling Mills, then Abex Steel Foundry retiring in 1989. He also owned and operated with his father George and brother Bill the Selkirk Bowling Lanes from 1961-1976.
Over the years, John volunteered with the Selkirk Game and Fish and Selkirk and Petersfield Curling Clubs. He was a long time member of the Selkirk Legion and Gordon Howard Seniors Centre.
Cremation has taken place and a private family celebration of life will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John’s name can be made to the Selkirk and District Community Foundation.
