Obituary
Johnston, John Fredrick
John Fredrick Johnston, fondly known as ‘Bud,’ peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the age of 81 years, in the comforting surroundings of Chartwell LTC Elmira. Bud was the beloved father of Shane (Denise) Johnston of Innisfil Beach and Sheri Johnston (Art Zekai) of Fergus. He was a cherished grandfather to Brandon and Jake and a loving brother to Karen Mitchell (Don Carter) of Woodstock. Bud also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
He is predeceased by his parents, Cecil and May (Ducklow) Johnston, his brother and sister-in-law Allan and Betty Lou Johnston, and his sister Joan Vigar.
Honoring Bud’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no visitation or funeral service will be held at the funeral home.
Throughout his life, Bud embraced many extraordinary experiences. The moments he spent hunting and fishing in Temagami were treasured memories that remained close to his heart. He was passionate about sharing stories about his diverse career path, from hairdressing to serving as an OPP officer and later working for the Temagami Lakes Association and Chief of Maintenance at Camp Wabikon (a summer camp for kids) and Security for Ontario Hydro until his retirement. Each career held its unique charm and left its mark on Bud’s adventurous spirit.
Animals held a special place in Bud’s heart, particularly his Golden Retriever companion, Honey. In remembrance of Bud, the family kindly requests donations to Adopt a Dog/Save a Life, an organization that resonates with his love for animals. For further information or to donate to Adopt A Dog/Save A life, please visit Buds tribute page on the funeral home website.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Doris Winfield and the entire staff at Chartwell LTC Elmira. Their loving care and unwavering support provided comfort not only to Bud but also to his family during this time of sorrow. May the memories of Bud’s vibrant life and the legacy he leaves behind bring solace to all those who knew and loved him.
